Floating pollution barriers find use in containing and delimiting spills of oils, hydrocarbons, solid wastes, organic or man-made foams, and preventing the passage of algae or jellyfish. They can be used as anti-torbidity systems as part of dredging activities to limit excessive dispersion of deposited and handled sediment on the seabed or in suspension.
